The B-24 Liberator was designed by the Consolidated Aircraft Company in response to the US Army Air Corps' request for bomber that could fly faster, higher, and farther than the B-17 Flying Fortress. It had a box-like fuselage, a high wing, tricycle landing gear, and a twin-tail assembly. Measuring 66 feet and 10 inches in length by 20 feet and 8 inches in height, with a 110-ft wingspan, it was powered by four air-cooled engines, reaching speeds of 300mph and heights of 28,000 feet. The B-24 was used by the US Army Air Corps and the British Royal Air Force during World War II. The most-produced airplane in the war, it served in all theaters of operations, particularly the Allied bombing offensive against Germany.
