HERPA LUFTHANSA 707-400 1/200 HAMBURG (**)
Produced as an officially licensed product to the highest standards, Herpa diecast metal models are developed as a collaborative effort with aircraft manufacturers, the airlines, and the military, and are recognized by discerning model airplane collectors worldwide for their unparalleled, accurate realism, attention to detail and exceptional quality.

This Herpa 1/200 scale Lufthansa Boeing 707-400 - Registration D-ABOB - which measures approximately 9-1/8-inches long with an 8-3/4-inch wingspan, is a correct, true-to-scale reproduction of the actual aircraft, and features authentic, highly detailed graphics and markings. A Display Stand is included.

This Boeing 707-400 was not only Lufthansa's sole surviving Boeing 707, it also held a very special place in aviation history for both Lufthansa and Hamburg Airport. Although it was last registered by Lufthansa as D-ABOB with the name Hamburg, during its fifteen active years with the airline, it was registered as D-ABOD with the name Frankfurt and flew on long-haul routes to North America. Lufthansa retired its last Boeing 707 in 1984.

After the aircraft was taken out of service in 1975, it was used for apprentice training at Lufthansa Technik in the Hamburg maintenance hangar at Hamburg Airport, where it was subsequently painted in the red and white colors of Hamburg Airport. In 1999, when Lufthansa Technik no longer had any further use for the aircraft, it was repainted in its original 1968 Lufthansa livery and exhibited at Hamburg Airport.

Due to the high costs associated with maintaining the aircraft, which had fallen into disrepair over the years, which were further exacerbated by the overall adverse effect that the Corona Virus had had on the transportation industry, Hamburg Airport was eventually forced to scrap this unique, historic aircraft in the summer of 2021 despite the passionate attempts of many aviation enthusiasts to save it.

Herpa is proud to have resurrected this very special aircraft as a dignified keepsake for its numerous admirers.
